Antigua

Antigua is a small and exclusive Caribbean island on the far eastern side of the region. It is a tropical paradise with 365 superb beaches, one for each day of the year. The beaches are this islands biggest attraction and they are very diverse ranging from secluded coves to long stretches of golden sand. Antigua has a very colonial feel and everywhere you go you will get this insight into the islands past especially around the islands capital Freetown which is surrounded by fortresses and charming windmills.

The island is also a marine haven with miles of coral reef to be explored. Many local shipwrecks also make for great diving which is easily arranged locally with many PADI courses and tours available. Antigua is also drier year round that many other Caribbean islands which is an added bonus to this beautiful destination. As you can see unlike many Caribbean destinations the summer months have very little rain, the fact is that only November out of the whole year where rain can be an issue, Antigua is also slightly cooler than other places and far less humid making its climate for pleasant.

Many of the islands hotels have their own stretch of private beach giving a secluded feel, the hotels are also generally smaller and you will not find high rise mass tourist options here. Self catering is a popular choice for holiday makers with local villages offering typical Caribbean dining although many resorts do offer all inclusive options to.Hayes & Jarvis have great deals to the stunning four star Jolly Beach Resort which has all the facilities you require and a superb sea from location on an all inclusive basis. If self catering is your thing then they also have a great hotel named the Blue Heron by Rex Resort which is excellent value and again set in a stunning location. The Galley Bay offers a resort of total luxury and although is a higher priced option you will be pampered in this excellent resort. All these options and more are available by clicking here.

Overall Antigua offers a secluded getaway option with a more exclusive feel, ideal for couples and honeymooners. There is not as much to see and do with limited areas to explore but if relaxation is your thing but with the option of a couple of days out then look no further.
